How to Use This Blog Site

Posted here are articles from the AAP Newsletter. You can find a list of the available articles on the right. Click on the article you'd like to read.

If you'd like to comment on the article, choose "comment" at the end of the article, type in the comment box, and click "publish." Please experiment with this and try it out. This is a way to have a discussion about what has been said in the newsletter.

At the moment, anonymous comments are allowed. This means to comment, you'll have two choices. If you are the first to comment on an article, click on "no comments" to open the comment box. If a previous comment has been made, just click in the comment box to respond.

Once you have written your comment, click on the drop-down menu and choose a method of identifying yourself. Don't forget to sign your name.

Each month there is also a post to allow you to comment on anything in the newsletter that is not listed specifically on the right sidebar. It will always be the last post for the month and will be titled The (Month's name) Newsletter.

When you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page on your computer, click on "Older Posts" to continue seeing posts from the beginning of the blog (January 2014).

News from Endowment & Trust Board/Scholarship Committee

 At our recent Brasstown Summer Workshop, Damon Blank and I invited our members to contribute to AAP’s three voluntary funds (Endowment, Trust and Scholarship Funds) as a way of marking personal events in our lives.  We were grateful as members stood up in community meetings to announce contributions. 

  • • Damon Blank pledged a contribution to the Endowment Fund in honor of his upcoming 32nd wedding anniversary.
  • • Murray Sher pledged a contribution to the Endowment Fund in honor of his 50th wedding anniversary.
  • • Barbara Lidsky pledged a contribution to the Endowment Fund in honor of beloved member Jerry Travers, who passed away recently.
  • • David Hawkins pledged a contribution to the Endowment Fund to honor his recent marriage to his partner James.
  • • Jacob Megdell pledged a contribution to the Scholarship Fund in honor of the 53rd anniversary of his Bar Mitzvah.
  • • Neil Makstein, Bruce Ellman and Susan Levy pledged a contributions to the Endowment Fund to honor Damon’s wedding anniversary and his leadership of the Endowment Committee.
  • • Carol Light, Ruthann Fox-Hines, Sharman Colosetti, Nick Kirsch, Barbara Thomason and Susan Levy all made contributions to the Scholarship Committee to honor their good work on behalf our Scholars Program. 

And more recently, 
  • • Gordon Cohen made a contribution to the Trust fund in honor of his son Daniel graduating from High school. 

Many thanks to all of these members! If you would like to add your pledge in honor of significant life events or loved ones, you can do so online at the AAP website as well as on your annual dues statement or at the I&C. 

If you aren’t clear on how these funds work, here is a brief summary:

AAP’s Endowment, Trust, and Scholarship Funds:


  • • The AAP Trust Fund was established primarily in order to assist members who are experiencing financial hardship, to participate in Summer Workshops and I&Cs.

  • • The AAP Endowment Fund was established in 2003 in order to provide the Academy with savings and investments to support future growth, as well as life-sustaining organizational projects (e.g. Voices).

  • • The AAP Scholarship Fund provides annual need-blind scholarships of $1000 to qualified beginning psychotherapists in order to help them attend our I&C, and to commit to their personal and professional development.
